Are you ready to return to work after a break or to find yourself a new exciting role?
Are you wondering what level you can return to, apply for? Are well-meaning friends telling you not to get your hopes too high? To lower your expectations?
Times are ch-ch-ch-changing post Covid and in the workplace at large, and you might be happily surprised that you might just get your cake AND eat it.
How to return to work or find a new job in 2021:
Know what you want
Start with identifying what it is you want. What kind of a role? How many hours? What kind of a salary? And write it all down.
Speak to several recruiters
Arrange to speak to several recruiters or job agencies and share your wishes with them. Resists from compromising at this stage. Make it clear that these are your expectations. Check for their reaction. You might find that your ‘’outrageous demands’’ are perfectly acceptable as the workplace has changed a lot because of Covid. Companies have become a lot more flexible.
Be clear on your strengths
Make sure to own your strengths and be able to describe them clearly. What specifically will you bring to your new employer? How will they benefit from your unique experience and talents?
Define your values
Ask yourself what is important to you? What work and life values are most important to you over the next few years? If you are clear with your values from the start it will make it much easier to ask for what you want, choose between offers, and apply for the kind of roles that will suit you.
Practice Practice Practice
Practice talking about your strengths. Share your ideal job with family, friends and other people you know. They might just have a company in mind for you. Get comfortable asking for what you want and setting boundaries. So by the time the opportunity you’ve been waiting for comes along you are ready.

”This Azkua training couldn’t have come from a better time for me after leaving a ‘safe’ job of 13 years. Feeling disillusioned and low, I found myself half-heartedly applying for ill-fitting jobs. This course managed to breath some life back into myself, my work-self & my abilities. It was a great experience, with a lovely bunch of people that inspire & encourage.”
Good luck with your job search,
